Is Maryland wine any good?
It is! But we see where you're going with this. The reality of terroir is generally considered to be the accumulated effects of climate, soil, ecology, etc. on the maturity, composition, and further impacts on the wine produced. Well. Anytime something new is made, we get to see the impacts of a new terroir. There is no standard.
With that said, this particular batch will feature elements of the lovely terroir in Lodi, California + a little Virginia pizzazz.
Furthermore, the art and science of fermentation and conditioning know no geographic boundaries! Winemaker John is a wizard.
When would you choose a sparkling red?
We're biased. You should probably ask google.
BUT we could also tell you that Lambrusco is well known to pair with savory Italian foods.
We will say that one of the best things about sparkling red is versatility. In general, we’d suggest you shy away from pairing with dessert, since red wines in general can clash with the sugar.

How is it made?
This year, Operation Bubbles is fermented in steel tank with forced carb - in a method common in many sparkling wine appellations around the world. If we make more in the next few years, we will experiment with ALL methods of making bubbles.
We'd love to make a Lambrusco-style Maryland wine. We want to give credit where credit is due and we wouldn't be here at all without the Italians...
What makes it different?
Not much, to be honest! It’s mostly that not many wine producers make sparkling reds. We did add some white grapes to our blend, which is also blasphemous in some circles.
We’re not sure why it’s been so slighted in the wine world. We blame the over-emphasis on tradition.
How much is there and will you make more?
Not much!!! But enough, so definitely don’t stress too much. But at the same time, you never know.
As for making it again in 2026…. that’ll depend on you! And the patience of our respective partners.
